CEO’s Corner: Resetting and Remapping for Scaling Teams
Last year November, I presented on the Scaling Up methodology at the JSE (Johannesburg Stock Exchange) organised seminar for Small to Medium Enterprises. Seated in the audience, was Clive Roman who had just been appointed as the new CEO of the Cape Town Drug Counselling Centre. Clive approached me soon after, shared his vision for the place and asked that we do a deep dive strategy session with his new team.
On the 13th of March, we spent a full day with the 15-member team, exploring where the organisation has been, what its key competencies are and where it could go in the future. The team was super engaged in the process and the board welcomed this new development.
Key learnings from the day were:
1. All teams must take some time to reflect, reset and remap.
2. It is amazing how much more a team can accomplish together than each team member on their own.
3. There is power is co-creating a shared, simple and clear strategy for the organisation. Everyone gets to see where they can contribute and make a difference.
4. The Scaling up methodology works wonders, especially the well designed One Page Strategic Plan. It makes things so clear and simple.
A month later, Clive and I had lunch, and he couldn’t stop talking about how this one day of resetting and remapping shifted things for the better in such a short period of time.
Looking forward to seeing how much this organisation grows going forward. Here is to more impact in the Western Cape through Grand Scale CFO.
